Introduction to Managing Safely

Audience:

Suitable for team leaders and administrative personnel who are involved in the management process.

Aims:

To give team leaders and managers a brief insight into their responsibilities and key activities.

Objectives:
On successful completion of Introduction to Managing Safely delegates will be to:
  • identify the main provisions of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974
  • understand how organisations can benefit from investing in a proactive approach to safety management
  • know why it is important to communicate best practise within business
  • understand the need to continuously improve safety management systems.
Course Structure:

The course has four modules and gives an overview of the knowledge and skills required to implement an effective health and safety management system.

Topics include:

  • the legal requirements for managing safely
  • responsibilities of those involved
  • understanding the causes of accidents and ill health
  • the business reasons for mananging health and safely
  • the reasons for monitoring and reviewing of systems and procedures
  • culture and communication in the workplace
  • controlling hazards
  • lone working
  • using display screens
  • managing premises.
Assessment of the Course:

The course is assessed by a written assessment paper and a short project. The project will be based on the application of tools and techniques covered during the programme. Successful completion of the programme results in the award of Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) certificate.

Course Length:

Two days.

Note:    Introduction to Managing Safely is a reduced version of the original IOSH core syllabus for Managing Safely. Although the programme includes some of the topics from Managing Safely it does not replace it.
