Human Factors in Accidents

Audience:

Managers, supervisors and those involved in workplace inspections and accident investigation.

Aims:

This one-day course examines the human contribution to workplace accidents and looks at ways of eliminating the unsafe act, which could contribute to an accident or dangerous occurrence.

Objectives:

On completion of the course delegates will be able to:

  • conduct a risk ranking exercise in their area of responsibility
  • identify areas where the perception of risk differs from identified risks
  • select subjects for an effective safety campaign
  • identify unsafe actions
  • correct unsafe actions
  • identify remedial action to be taken to eliminate the root causes of unsafe acts.

Topics include:

  • the human perception of risk
  • risk ranking
  • understanding group behaviour
  • communication skills
  • accident causation and prevention
  • identifying unsafe actions
  • spotting and correcting unsafe behaviour.
Course Assessment:

There is no assessment of the course but all delegates will receive a certificate of attendance.
